![]() With Catalina, Apple introduced a series of enhancements that could potentially enhance your productivity and overall user experience: One of the most compelling reasons to upgrade is to access the latest features and improvements that Catalina brings to the table. Should I Upgrade from Mojave to Catalina? Yes, and Here’s Why! Elevate Your Mac’s Potential with New Features and More. Part 1: Should I upgrade from Mojave to Catalina Part 3: Things to Do Before UpgradingShould I Upgrade from Mojave to Catalina.Part 1: Should I upgrade from Mojave to Catalina.I am now running Catalina on the Mini’s internal SSD and have my old Mojave system on an external SSD ready to go just in case all hell break loose but now that I’m here, Catalina seems great. After the initial install tribulations I have been running for about 10 days now and haven’t had any problems with any apps so far. I use an Artist Mix and Dock part of the time and the Eucon App starts up in about half the time it took under Mojave. ![]() I’m also guessing that I’m going to run into some plugins that will misbehave but haven’t seen that yet.Įverything seems to run smoother under Catalina. I have found other solutions but not as easy as QT7. When I built my studio I took VRs of all of the infrastructure before the walls and treatment went up showing where all of the HVAC, electrical and audio conduits were. The worst was Quicktime 7 which I use to view Quicktime VR files. I guess I’m lucky as there were only a couple of things that were not upgradable and those really weren’t that important to me. ![]() The other thing was dealing with my apps and having to start every one up to see what still ran, what needed upgrading and what was just plain not available any more. I don’t know if it was the multiple deletions and restarts or the total nuking of every last UA or Universal Audio file I could find on the system drive. Restart again and Yeah! The UA icons were there in the Security and Privacy window.Īfter that it was pretty much smooth sailing. I did it again and this time using the 3rd party app “Find Any File” which will look places a regular file search can’t look and deleting every UA file I could find including all of the plugins then reinstalling the UA software again. I ended up deleting all UA and universal Audio preference files from the system drive listed in the UA Catalina upgrade docs and doing a reinstall from the UA web site. The only problem was when I went there it was nowhere to be found. I was told to go to the Security and Privacy window within 30 minutes and to allow the UA icon. Smile) from my internal system drive to the external to see how it all went.ĭuring upgrade the process I was very careful to say yes to EVERY one of the security “allow” windows that came up and still had problems with the UA activation in Catalina. ![]() I formatted the OWC drive and then did a clean install of Catalina on it then did a system migration (I know a clean install would have been a better way to go but I just wasn’t up for that much pain. I had just bought an OWC Envoy Pro EX thunderbolt 3 external SSD drive that’s a real screamer so before I put it other uses I used it as a test bed for the Catalina update. I was getting a bad shutdown error at each startup and the overall feel of the mac was getting slower and slower so I decided to give Catalina a try. Startup was taking forever- nearly 5 minutes, sometimes longer and my machine was getting glitchier. I was starting to have some serious performance issues with the latest version of Mojave on my 2018 Mac Mini i7.
